The Pu Dao or Pu is a short-handled spear used in demonstrations and ceremonies of the Filipino martial arts typically used with one hand and primarily as a self-defense tool. Traditionally the right hand used the pudao or pudao handle which consists of the two hilt sections (the auxiliary hand is a double-handled machete used with the left hand) while the left hand held the auxiliary hand similarly to a machete. In traditional Filipino art the pudao is used with the right hand and a wooden shaft with the left hand holding a long handle (the pudao tang) in a reverse grip so that both hands are always kept close to the body. The pudao has a straight edge with two deep notches (one on each side) that are used to increase the power and thrusting potential of the pudao. Made from high-grade stainless steel for durability and with tempered steel for strength the pudao is decorated in traditional Chinese style with a white bronze sleeve and golden brass trim. This rare and unique piece is one of the few remaining historical weapons of the Chinese army used in battle against the Americans during both the Pei and Japanese invasions of China.
