Description
The Cimarron No. 3 American 45LC is a masterful reproduction of the iconic Cimarron Schofield, a top-break revolver that holds a revered place in the annals of historical firearms. Designed by Major George W. Schofield of the 10th Cavalry, this revolver was an enhancement of Smith & Wesson's No. 3 American model, and it quickly became a favorite among cavalry units and notorious figures of the Old West. The U.S. Army ordered nearly 8,000 of these revolvers in the proprietary .45 Schofield cartridge, with many seeing action during the Geronimo campaign and in the hands of the buffalo soldiers of the 9th and 10th Cavalry. The Cimarron Schofield's top-break rapid ejection system made it particularly advantageous for mounted work, earning it a reputation as superior to the 1873 Colt Single Action. This revolver was also favored by the infamous James-Younger gang, U.S. Marshal Bill Tilghman, and Custer's chief of scouts, Lonesome Charley Reynolds. In the 1880s, New York gun dealer Schuyler Hartley Graham acquired surplus Schofields, shortened the barrels from 7 to 5 inches, and sold many to Wells Fargo & Company. Cimarron now offers the Model No. 3 Schofield 2nd Model, meticulously copied from an original in their extensive collection of antique firearms. Available in a 3.5-inch barrel in .45 Colt, a 5-inch barrel in .38 Special or .45 Colt, or the cavalry-length 7-inch barrel in .38 SP, .44-40, or .45 Colt, this revolver is versatile and historically significant. Notably, the .45 Colt chambered Cimarron Schofields can also handle the .45 Schofield cartridge. Whether you're drawn to the authentic Old West or the cinematic reel West, where characters like the Schofield Kid from Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven or Charlie Prince from Russell Crowe's 3:10 To Yuma wielded these legendary sixguns, owning a Cimarron Schofield is a connection to a storied past. The revolver features markings on the left grip by Lt. David A. Lyle and on the right grip by sub-inspector Charles Woodman, adding to its historical allure. With UPC 814230101150 and MPN CA8661, the Cimarron No. 3 American 45LC is not just a firearm; it's a piece of history.
