The new barrels are 4140 though they have a little bit of a lighter twist and that allows them to heat treat much quicker than 4140. They also air tend to hold more heat than barrels made of chromium or made of nitride chromium. So they shoot a little longer but they are very robust. The barrels feature a 1/16 twist rate. Better foreword the barrel has a little more strength. If you are using a full sized .45 ACP round these barrels are great but not the best for that. If you are looking to convert a round barrel to a short bull barrel you need to buy a barrel after installing the barrel and before you even turn the pistol over. That is not the case with the Iver Johnson Arms barrel. We forged these from 4140 and heat treat them to ensure they are able to withstand the wear and tear of firing thousands of rounds through the pistol with no deformation. The barrels come with a barrel bushing and a 1/16 twist rifling twist that ensures they hold their shape and allow you to chamber rounds much more quickly without undue wear.
