The spring keeps the blade deployed whether you have the blade deployed or not. Once the blade is deployed the locking bar will move forward and lock the blade in place. Once the locking bar moves out of the way the blade will close and lock in place. To close the blade push down on the locking bar and it will unlock the blade. Now you can close the blade and let it fly open with just one powerful push. A quick press on the locking bar and the blade will close all the way. Once the knife is open you have a nice smooth sliding motion to get the blade all the way out and locking it back in place. The knife has a 4in plain edge blade and is 7in in overall length.
