On November 5, 2017, Stephen Willeford heard gunshots coming from the nearby First Baptist Church. Without hesitation, he grabbed his AR-15 rifle and sprinted barefoot toward the danger. Upon arrival, he confronted the shooter- who was clad in body armor- exchanged gunfire, and ultimately wounded him, which led to the shooter fleeing the scene. Willeford then flagged down a passing motorist, Johnnie Langendorff, and they pursued the shooter together. Willeford's swift actions undoubtedly saved many lives that fateful day.In the aftermath of the tragedy, Willeford has become a symbol of bravery and an advocate for preparedness and responsible gun ownership, and now is a spokesperson for Gun Owners of America (GOA).
