It is recommended to re-sharpen your blade on a regular basis. The fingers that you use your fingers to hold the knife should be strong enough to avoid puncturing or cutting your fingers. Also the longer the blade is held the more it is honed and the sharper the edge becomes. The opposite side of the blade has an acid test indicator to make sure the edge remains sharp.
